What to expect at your first appointment

Venturing into the unfamiliar can be intimidating, but rest assured, we're here to make your first appointment as smooth and comfortable as possible. Even the most needle-averse will find our process approachable and reassuring. We’ll guide you through every step, ensuring you’re well-informed and confident about all aspects of your treatment.

  • Loose clothing is ideal for your acupuncture appointment, but if you're coming straight from work and didn’t bring a change of clothes, there’s no need to worry. We’ll provide table sheets for draping as needed.

Many treatments use distal points, like those on the hands, arms, feet, and legs, so your clothing might be just fine. However, for more localized treatments, we may need to adjust or move your clothing to access the area. If your attire doesn’t allow for this, we’re happy to ensure you’re properly draped for comfort and privacy.

  • Acupuncture typically involves minimal discomfort. The needles used are very thin, much finer than those used for injections, and most people experience only a slight sensation, often described as a brief tingling or warmth. Some areas may be more sensitive than others, but overall, the process is designed to be gentle and well-tolerated. If you have any concerns about discomfort, please let us know, and we can adjust the treatment to ensure your comfort.

  • It’s best to avoid eating a heavy meal or drinking alcohol before your appointment, however, we do recommend not coming in on an empty stomach. A snack before or a meal an hour or so before your treatment is a great idea.

Afterward, be sure to drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity to help your body respond positively to the treatment

  • The number of sessions required and the frequency recommended varies depending on the condition being treated and the individual. During your consultation we will discuss a personalized treatment plan. Please be aware that during the course of your treatments this treatment plan may be modified depending on how your body responds to the treatment. Some people require more frequency, while some require less.

  • Some people experience mild soreness or bruising at the needle sites, but these effects are temporary. Acupuncture is generally well-tolerated and any side effects are usually mild.

  • Yes! Acupuncture is often used in conjunction with other medical therapies. However, it’s important to inform us about other treatments, therapies or medications that you may be using.

  • We use single use, sterile disposable stainless steel needles. All needles are sterile and only used once and for one patient. After treatment all needles are thrown into a disposal.
